Presidential Address of IEPDPU at the Economic Summit being organized by the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) at African Peoples Hall No34 Onikanga Street GRA, Ilorin on 8th December, 2012 (24th Muharram 1433AH).
All protocols duly observed.
The economic predicament and the worsening economic conditions of Nigeria, and more specially, the fast disappearance of Local and Modern Industries in the Emirate had led to the increasing number of our youths who roam about the street aimlessly. It is even more disappointing and disturbing that virtually all the commercial and artisan sub-sectors of the economy have been taken over by people from other parts of the country and hence this Economic Summit.
We are conscious of the spirit of co-existence and togetherness. But the danger is that elements in the commanding heights of the Emirate economy can decide to relocate to other parts of Nigeria, if there is any crisis as a result of unemployment and youth restiveness.
We implore the well-to-do indigenes of Ilorin Emirate to assist in the establishment of small and large scale businesses and industries that will provide employment for our youths. We also enjoin the youths to be job creators rather than job seekers. We also count on illustrious sons and daughters of Ilorin Emirate here present and those who are unavoidably absent to join the union in the establishment of a development Fund, a kind of pool money for the development of the Emirate.
We are forward looking for your positive assistance toward the betterment and success of Economic empowerment of Ilorin Emirate indigenes.
Maa-salam
